Riding The Currents
This is a two part commission for the Regional Water Quality Control Plant and Household Hazardous Waste Station in Palo Alto, CA. The RWQCP&HHW (!!) is sited right at Baylands a conservation area on the South SF Bay marshes. It's a haven for migrating birds and a great visual manifestation of the water cycle. The wooden piece was installed at the public entry to the facility used by householders and educational groups, and the mural painted directly onto an old water tank forms the backdrop to the new outdoor classroom.
Riding The Currents entry piece comprises eight reclaimed wood columns, formerly freeway guardrail supports, 72 x 7.5 x 5.5 inches each, with paint and stainless steel, on concrete base, 2014.
Currents mural is 25 x 11 feet, paint with UV protection on concrete wall, 2014.
Both art pieces are accessible M-F 8am -5pm, and Sat 9-11am at Regional Water Quality Control Plant, 2501 Embarcadero Way, Palo Alto, CA 94303.
